10. The French Rivers 1827-35
405 - Paris- View of the Seine from the Barrière de Passy, with the Louvre in the Distance

Engraved by J. T. Willmore for Turner's Annual Tour - the Seine, 1835 (Rawlinson No.485). A few rough studies of the Seine at Passy are in the 'Loire, Tours, Orléans, Paris' sketchbook (No.366), ff. 38v-40v. A more detailed drawing corresponding to the final composition in some respects, including the Barrière itself on the left, is on f.156 of the 'Paris and Environs' sketchbook (No.368). It is also possible that Turner referred to the drawing he had made at Passy in his 'Paris, France, Savoy' sketchbook of 1819 (T.B.CLXXIII, f.14r).
