Engraved by R. Brandard for Turner's Annual Tour - The Seine, 1834 (Rawlinson No.466); and by Himely in aquatint, date uncertain (Rawlinson No.832b). The central tower of Rouen Cathedral was destroyed in 1822 and this drawing, with its companion view looking up the river (No.401), may have used sketches made before that event, perhaps those in the 'Dieppe, Rouen and Paris' sketchbook (No.363), ff.6v-7r, 22v. Turner was concerned to extract the maximum dramatic effect from the height of the tower and therefore ignored its disappearance.
