The Red Spider of Katowice

The Red Spider of Katowice is a room-installation for Galeria Potocka. In the first room stands an electric motor, painted red. To it's spinning wheel a number of ropes are attached. The ropes go through the door to the next room. Hooks are screwed into the walls and knives are dangling up and down in front of the killer's victims as the motor spins round.
Lucian Staniak was a member of the 'Art Lovers Club', as a painter his favourite colour was red. On his victims he left behind notes such as:
There is no happiness without tears, no life without death. Beware, I am going to make you cry.
I plucked a rose in bloom in the garden of Olsztyn, and I shall do it again elsewhere. For there is no holiday without a funeral.

Electric motor, rope, knives, prints on paper, cm x cm.
